History of our church
___________________________________________________

In early 1972, six families began meeting to pray about beginning a church in the emerging North Raleigh area. Their prayers eventually became a firm sense of calling and conviction, and with the blessing of the North Carolina District, North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene was born.

The Church began by holding Sunday services in a Seventh Day Adventist facility on St. Mary’s Street just north of downtown while looking for land. In 1973, a three-acre farm on Millbrook Road was located and purchased and the church built a multipurpose facility and moved north in 1974.

As the community continued to grow and God continued to bless, two more phases of buildings were needed. The church flourished and prospered to where it was approaching 300 in attendance in the early 1990’s. At the time the decision was made to locate a larger parcel of land from which it could enlarge its ministry options and expand its community impact.

The current location on Strickland Road was purchased in 1993 and, following construction, the church relocated in April of 1997. It has continued to flourish and be a vital Kingdom presence in the community—supporting people in their journey to discover an enduring sense of meaning and purpose through a vital relationship with Jesus and families in their attempt to become whole and healthy.

Along the way, the North Raleigh Church has been a catalyst for the starting of other congregations in the Triangle area. It was instrumental in the launch of the Penny Road Church of the Nazarene in Cary in the late 1980’s, Tapestry Church of the Nazarene (a multi-cultural church and compassionate ministry outreach located in downtown Raleigh) in the late 1990's and, most recently, Wake Forest Church of the Nazarene in 2005.
